Final Project

For your final project, you have a chance to explore an aspect of fables that you find interesting. There are several project options to choose from. Look at the list below and decide which project you would like to complete. If you have another project idea, feel free to discuss it with me. You should have your project idea approved by me before the end of the day.

Option 1: Write a comparison paper

Fables were passed down by word of mouth for a long time before they were written down. Sometimes there are many different versions of the same fable. For this option, you will read two versions of the same fable. These should be from different sources. Then you will write a paper (2-3 paragraphs) comparing the two versions. Your class presentation should include a poster that shows the similarities and differences.

Option 2: Write a report on a fabulist

Fabulists are the people that write and record fables. For this option, you will choose a famous fabulist such as Aesop or La Fountaine and research his or her life. You will write a one page report. You should include information about where the fabulist was born, when he or she lived, and what types of fables he or she wrote. You should also include several other facts that you find interesting. This should be word processed. Your class presentation should include a poster with information about the fabulist.

Option 3: Write an original fable

If you enjoyed writing fables, you may write another fable for your final project. You should follow the same guidlines that you did in activity 3. The fable should be at least one page long and word processed. For the class presentation, you will read your fable aloud. You should also create a large illustration of your fable on poster board to share with the class.

Option 4: Read a fable to a child and write a paper

Fables were created to teach. For this option, you will choose a fable that is appropriate for a child who is between four and eight years old. You will read the fable to that child and then talk to him or her about the moral of the story. Then you will write a paragraph explaining why the lesson from the story was important and how it might help the child. In your presentation, you should tell us about what fable you read, who you read it to, and why the lesson was important.

Note: For this project you will need a note signed by an adult that says that you read the fable to a child.
