Beau & Lydia
Our Engagement

Beau and Lydia had been friends ever since Beau’s freshman year ( Lydia ’s sophomore year).  At the end of last year, they went to see RENT for “Movie Knight” and after that, in the wee hours of the morning, we decided to date.

Engagement story:

Last year I was taking a film class, where we watched movies on Sunday nights as a class in the science center. One Sunday (April 2nd) Beau asked me to meet him in the library after the movie was over. After class I met him downstairs in the stacks of Vogol library. Looking back, he seemed to be a little antsy, but I didn’t think anything of it. I thought it was strange, though, when he suggested that we walked around in the stacks. He assured me that he does it all the time. So we walked around for a bit and talked, until we stopped at the English literature section. There he said that he had written a poem that he wanted to read to me. Since he had written poetry to me before, this didn’t seem out of the ordinary. That is, until he started reading and about half way through I realized where it was going. At the end of the poem he said, “I ask you now in the presence of all of wisdom’s testimony, Will you, Lydia Lynn Posselt join me in a life of holy matrimony?” and got down on one knee. I think I said, “Of course!!” and the rest is history.

A few days later, our friends decided that people weren’t being informed of this soon enough (like the religion department) and decided to drive to Waterloo at midnight to draw a massive ring with chalk on the sidewalk in front of Grossmann Hall. They had my permission, but Beau knew nothing about this. The next morning, Beau came into my room and asked, “Did you know about this??” I also heard stories about professors walking backwards into Grossmann in order to read it.
