Unit Overview This unit is about artists of Latin America and Spain and their respective works of art! On the first day, the teacher informs the students that they need to be conducting a little research about an artist or a work of art. The students receive a list to choose from and make their selections. Day 1: Choose an artist or a work of art. Head to the library to start that research. Students will be given a LIBRARY SEARCH TICKET to do their research. The search ticket guides the students on what they need to be finding out for their presentation to the class. Day 2: Either spend one more day in the library, giving students more time to prepare their informal presentations, or continue with normal daily work Day 3 (or whenever you want your students to be ready to present): Reading about Fernando Botero. Have students present information on Botero and "A Family." While students are presenting, the other students need their ART CHARTS to begin filling out the presentation information. During this reading, you will be using, journaling, and think aloud reading strategies. Day 4: Reading about "the big 3," Diego Rivera, David Alfaro Siqueiros, and Jose Clemente Orozco. Students also need to present information about the artists and their works of art, and the students not presenting need to fill out their art chart. During this reading, students will be using the GIST and journaling reading strategies. Day 5: This day is a little more in depth with Diego Rivera. Students will be reading in Spanish about Diego Rivera and will use the foreign language and journaling reading strategy. All following days: You can have students present their artists and works and find readings to go with, or just have the students present and finish filling out their art charts. Assessment: Students can be tested on information about artists and their works.
This pathfinder was created as a resource for Spanish teachers to teach this unit, and gives resources for kids to use on their projects. |
