Annotated Bibliography for Classroom Management/Discipline

(2006).   Elementary Classroom Management Survival Tips .   Retrieved November 17, 2006, from http://www.teachervision.fen.com/teacher-training/classroom-management/6752.html?for.

TeacherVision is the host of this Web site.   Resources include a variety of lesson plans, free email newsletters, quizzes, and printables to help teachers enhance learning.   This list of survival tips is not the only source available on this page.   Teachers can search for lesson plans by grade, subject, or theme.   The content of this site, in particular, includes a list of 44 tips for teachers on what discipline techniques work in the classroom.   Although not all the pages are updated annually, the information is still beneficial to teachers.   This site is easy to read because the information is in a list and there aren't visuals or distracting colors and background.   Overall, it's a great resource for teachers.

Starr, L. (2004).   Creating a climate for learning: Effective classroom management techniques .   Retrieved October 17, 2006 from http://www.education-world.com/a_curr/curr155.shtml.

Education World is a free resource for educators.   Its goal is to make it easier for teachers to integrate the Internet into the classroom.   Education World's parent company is EDmin.com.   This site includes many effective classroom management techniques.   From this Web site, you can link to a number of professional development sites.   These can even be narrowed down by subject.   Personally, I used this website to gain some knowledge on effective classroom management techniques.   I found an example of a Student Contract that students can read and then sign.   It starts off, "As a student, I will..." and then goes on to list certain things, such as " Always try to do my best work, " and "Be kind and helpful to my classmates."   This site also includes a list of twelve reward & consequence systems that teachers themselves have used and posted on the site because they are successful.   This site is also easy to follow and find information.   There are some advertisements along the side of the page, but these do not take away from the important information on the page.

Hopkins, G. (2005).   School "rules"!   Ten activities for establishing classroom rules .   Retrieved October 17, 2006 from http://www.educationworld.com/a_lesson/lesson/lesson274.shtml.

This is another Web site hosted by Education World, which includes ten different activities for establishing classroom rules.   It also happens to be my favorite of the five sites I visited.   On the left hand side of the page, teachers can find links to lesson plans, divided by subjects, and many lesson plan features.   Just like the site above, this site also has advertisements along the right side of the page, but they do not distract the reader.   This Web site does a great job of implementing white space and using headlines to distinguish one activity from another.   I especially recommend this site for elementary teachers, particularly K-2.   It provides you with several great activities that the students are sure to enjoy!

Dwyer, K. (1997). Disciplining students with disabilities .   Retrieved November 17, 2006 from http://www.ldonline.org/article/6182.

This Web site is hosted by LD Online, who claims to be "The world's leading website on learning disabilities and ADHD."   The site features hundreds of helpful articles, monthly columns by noted experts, children's writing and artwork, a comprehensive resource guide, and very active forums.   I used this Web site to gain knowledge on how to discipline students with learning disabilities.   The sections that I paid the most attention to were "Responsibility of the IEP team to address and prevent behavioral problems" and "Examples of IEP discipline issues."   This site makes good use of headlines to guide readers and help them locate specific information more easily.   I recommend this site to any teacher who may be struggling with students who have disabilities in their classrooms.

Dunn, C.   Classroom management plan.   Retrieved October 17, 2006 from http://www.calstatela.edu/faculty/jshindl/cm/caroldunnCMP.htm.

This Web site is a classroom management resource site, posted by California State University in Los Angeles.   This site provides information about classroom management, based off of two theorists' perspectives; Glasser and Kohn.   These theorists' theories on classroom management are very similar.   This Web site is full of great information, especially about instructional and assessment strategies that promote management goals.   The author of this site did not use flashy colors, visuals, or a distracting background, but rather, simply used the standard black text with a white background.   The information is in an outline form, making it easy to read and follow.
